Tet Rally latvia Opening Ceremony at Rīga Town Hall Square
On Thursday, July 18, at Rīga Town Hall Square, an impressive Opening Ceremony will mark the start of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) Latvian round Tet Rally Latvia, which will happen over the following four days in Rīga, Tukums region, Talsi and Talsi region, Kuldīga region, Dienvidkurzeme region, as well as the rally city Liepāja.
Before the official opening ceremony begins, at 15.30, there is a special basketball-related activity scheduled involving Latvian national team basketball players and FIA World Rally Championship pilots. Shortly before the opening ceremony starts, there will also be a ‘family’ photo of the leading WRC crews and Latvian rally drivers participating in Tet Rally Latvia.
The impressive opening event of the Tet Rally Latvia will start at 16.50 next to the Rīga City Council building. Spectators will enjoy performances by musical groups Tautumeitas and Andžejs Grauds drum school. They will have the opportunity to meet their idols, collect autographs from the world's leading rally drivers, and hear their comments before the start. The official part will begin at 18.00, with speeches on the opening stage and WRC Tet Rally Latvia crews driving onto the stage. Later, they will navigate through the narrow streets of Old Riga to reach the base of the Freedom Monument for a historic photoshoot.
After the opening event, escorted by the State Police, rally crews will drive through the streets of Rīga along Brīvības, Šmerļa, and S. Eizenšteina streets, heading towards Biķernieki Track. At 20.05, drivers will face their first competitive challenge of Tet Rally Latvia – the special stage SSS1 Biķernieki Track, featuring an impressive distance of 11.13 km.
After completing the first competitive stage, rally cars will return to the heart of Rīga – a Parc Fermé will be set up at Rīga Town Hall Square. The cars will remain there overnight until the crews return at 8:00 the next day, when they will be going for the gravel stages of Tet Rally Latvia. Although the cars will be within a fenced-off area, this will be a unique opportunity for residents and visitors of Rīga to get a close look at the rally cars of the WRC Tet Rally Latvia crews.
